LUFTHANSA Cargo has set up a new wholly owned subsidiary, heyworld, which offers a range of configurable transport solutions aimed at online retailers, digital marketplaces and forwarders service to its e-commerce clients. The new company, based in Frankfurt, with Timo Schamber as managing director, said: 'With our dynamic team of experienced logisticians and retail experts, we will be able to create the best transport solutions for cross-border online trade.'

Described as a digital-first shipping company, it aims to integrate seamlessly with customers' storefronts, ERP systems or shipping software. Shipments will move on 2,387 daily flights to 31 worldwide destinations operated by Lufthansa and its partner airlines Austria, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings, reports London's Air Cargo News.

Lufthansa Cargo head of product and service development, Stefan Frankenhauser, explained: 'We have clearly identified the new customer requirements and developed an additional transport offering for online retailers.'

Heyworld will offer a modular service portfolio characterised by convenient access, fast transport times, a high level of reliability, simple Customs clearance, end-to-end shipment tracking and pricing at package level.

The new company will embed Lufthansa Cargo's conventional airport-to-airport air cargo services into its transport solutions and integrate optional services, such as first- and last-mile transfers and handling add-ons.

Lufthansa Cargo chief executive and executive board chairman, Peter Gerber, added: 'By establishing heyworld, we are creating a simple and reliable transport solution for the e-commerce sector.'
