While the effects of the war between Russia and Ukraine on commercial maritime traffic in the Black Sea continue, another ship that was the target of the attacks was seen off the coast of Trabzon. It was learned that the cargo ship named VOLGA-4007 came to the coast of Trabzon and anchored offshore after the damages it received.
Traces of the attack drew attention on the hull of the ship, which was built in 1989 and is approximately 140 meters long. While it was stated that the ship sailing under the Cook Islands flag was affiliated with Turkish shipping companies, the presence of the Turkish flag on the bow of the ship did not go unnoticed.
4 DRONES ATTACKS OFF NOVOROSSIYSK
It was reported that VOLGA-4007 was attacked by a drone while leaving Novorossiysk Port on August 20, 2026.
It was stated that the ship was the target of four successive drones during its navigation, and that there were 13 personnel on the ship at the time of the attack. While work was initiated to evacuate the crew following the incident, detailed information regarding the extent of damage to the ship was not shared at the first stage.
It was learned that the damaged ship later headed to the coast of Trabzon for security and repair needs.
SIMILAR IMAGES ARE INCREASED ON THE COASTS OF TRABZON
It is noteworthy that commercial ships, which have been attacked due to conflicts in the Black Sea, have recently turned towards Trabzon and the surrounding coasts.
In July, the dry cargo ship named MV Reyhan Sarı, which was carrying coal from Russia's Taman Port to Trabzon, was also attacked by a drone off the coast of Novorossiysk. One personnel died and two personnel were injured on the ship, which arrived at Trabzon Port in a damaged condition.
GAS NERO WAS WAITED OFF SURMENE
The Panama-flagged LPG tanker named GAS NERO was also diverted to Trabzon after a drone attack in the Black Sea.
After the fire that broke out in the bow section of the tanker was brought under control, the ship was kept in a safe zone off the coast of Sürmene for security and repair purposes.
Another LPG tanker, which was reported to be damaged at the end of July, was anchored off the coast of Akçaabat's Söğütlü District.
LEADER CLARET-BLUE ALSO CAME TO TRABZON
The Ro-Ro ship named Lider Bordo-Mavi, which set out to carry cargo from Samsun to Tuapse Port, was also the target of drones on the night of August 26.
After the attack of three drones, a fire broke out on the ship and five crew members were injured. After the fire was taken under control, the ship was directed to Trabzon Port for security purposes.
