MPC Container Ships orders six 3,700-TEU vessels from Taizhou Sanfu, focusing on alternative fuels and emissions reduction technologies.
Norwegian tonnage provider MPC Container Ships (MPCC) has placed an order for six 3,700-TEU vessels from China's Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering, according to reports from Rotterdam's Off-Shore Energy.
The new ships will be equipped for alternative fuels and advanced emissions-reduction technologies. The first delivery is anticipated in the second half of 2028, with each vessel operating under a 10-year charter to a top five liner company.
MPCC's investment of US$292.5 million is projected to generate approximately $479 million in revenue and $288 million in EBITDA. The financing will be structured through a combination of equity and debt.
Additionally, the company has announced a 50/50 joint venture with Uthalden to acquire two 4,500-TEU newbuildings currently owned by MPCC. These vessels will also be chartered to a top five liner company, with the joint venture financing most of the purchase price through moderate leverage.
As part of its fleet modernization strategy, MPCC plans to sell the AS Clementina, a vessel approaching its 20-year class renewal in 2026, for $24 million. The handover is expected to occur after the current charter concludes in the second quarter of 2026.
Chief Executive Constantin Baack stated that 2025 has been a transformational year for MPCC, with 17 newbuildings now on order for delivery starting in 2026. He noted that the contracted backlog exceeds $2 billion, which strengthens partnerships and positions the company for sustainable growth.
