OSLO-BASED containership owner and operator MPC Container Ships (MPCC) is continuing to expand its vessel fleet with the acquisition of another feeder-size containership, the 1,740-TEU AS Selina, a vessel built in 2012 at the Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard in China, for US$13.86 million. The firm said it expects to take delivery of the vessel during the third quarter of the year, reports American Shipper.
Along with the May purchase of three 2,500-TEU ships, the latest acquisition will bring MPCC's total fleet to 69 ships, 40 of which are owned and operated by MPC Container Ships Invest BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of MPCC.
Incorporated in January 2017 and having taken control of its first vessels in April 2017, MPC Container Ships is already the largest owner of feeder-size container vessels - those with capacity of up to 3,000 TEU - in the world.
The company in June raised roughly $50 million through a private share placement for additional vessel acquisitions.
