MOL seafarer training moves from theory to practice on 6 working ships JAPAN's MOL Line has announced the launch of a shipboard training programme called Cadet Actual Deployment for Education with Tutorial (CADET) involving six working cargo ships, which also act as training vessels.
The scheme covers not only safety and basic proficiency training, but also loading and unloading real cargo in day-to-day operations. This replaces the old programme aboard the sole-purpose educational vessel, the Spirit of MOL.
Cadets aboard containerships will learn about ship to shore cargo handling to tight minute-to-minute schedules, said MOL. These practical training sessions allow cadets to experience vessel operations while moving actual cargo.
On tankers, cadets will observe the actual operation of the cargo pump and valves. These loading and discharging operations require careful planning and high-level safety measures, said the MOL statement. Said MOL executive officer Masaaki Nemoto: "Safe operation is the core competence of the company, and protecting yourself and protecting the vessel lead to safe operations."
