    MoI concludes training to boost seaports security

    The training workshop on securing seaports organised by the Permanent Committee for the Management of Seaports in cooperation with the Police Training Institute concluded on Thursday with the participation of a number of representatives of the State’s stakeholders from ministries, agencies and institutions, as well as participants from Kuwait and Oman.

    The training workshop on securing seaports organised by the Permanent Committee for the Management of Seaports in cooperation with the Police Training Institute concluded on Thursday with the participation of a number of representatives of the State’s stakeholders from ministries, agencies and institutions, as well as participants from Kuwait and Oman. The training workshop, provided by experts from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), aimed to familiarise participants with the sciences relating to the security of seaports and the role of IMO in strengthening maritime security and the organisation’s decision-making processes and maritime security measures of the organisation. The workshop also aimed to provide assistance to member states, as well as to familiarise them with the SOLAS Convention and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, maritime security principles, threats and preventive measures, the functions of the company security officer, the ship security officer, maritime threats and security standards provided for in the ISPS code. Chairman of the Permanent Committee for the Management of Seaports Brigadier Dr Abdulhadi Mohammed al Dossari said the workshop, dedicated to securing seaports, was the result of cooperation between the committee and many of the parties in the country.  Supervisor of the maritime transport sector at the Ministry of Transport and Communications Dr Saleh Mohsen Fetais said the workshop comes as part of cooperation between the ministry and MoI in matters of common interest. At the end of the workshop, Brigadier Dr Dossari and Dr Fetais honoured the participants of the workshop.
