ZEYPORT modernizes its waste reception facility, boosting capacity for efficient waste management from ships in Istanbul.

Zeytinburnu Port Operations Industry and Trade Inc. (ZEYPORT), which provides services for the collection of waste generated by ships in Istanbul, has completed modernization and investment works at its waste reception facility. It has been reported that the renewed facility has reached an operational capacity that can provide fast and secure services to a greater number of vessels.

In a letter sent by ZEYPORT to the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping dated October 22, 2026, information was provided regarding the investments made to protect the marine environment and meet the needs of the maritime sector.

Waste reception infrastructure has been renewed.

According to ZEYPORT's statement, comprehensive modernization works at the waste reception facility serving ships under the relevant legislation have been completed.

As part of the works, a new infrastructure system with advanced technology has been established at the facility, and service standards have also been modernized.

Following the investments, it was stated that the operational capacity of the facility has been increased, allowing for the rapid and secure acceptance of waste from a greater number of ships.

Waste acceptance from small vessels began in January.

Under the Waste Reception Protocol signed between the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Environmental Protection and Control Department and ZEYPORT, waste acceptance from vessels below certain tonnages began on January 1, 2026.

Under this application, wastewater, bilge water, and waste oils are accepted from vessels with a gross tonnage of less than 400 GT and tankers smaller than 150 GT.

This application was announced to the maritime sector by the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping through its circular numbered 116 dated February 6, 2026.

    More vessels will be served.

In ZEYPORT's latest statement, it was emphasized that with the completed investments, the operational capacity of waste reception services has been enhanced.

It was noted that the modernization aims to carry out waste management activities more effectively for the protection of the marine environment and to expedite the waste delivery processes of vessels.

In the announcement made by the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping to sector representatives, it was reported that ship operators and interested parties wishing to obtain information about the facility's current capacity, details of the services offered, and operational processes can directly contact ZEYPORT.

Details regarding the financial magnitude of the investment made within the scope of modernization, the facility's new digital capacity, and the daily waste acceptance amount were not shared in the statement.
