DIRECTOR Andreas Chrysostomou of the Department of Merchant Shipping, Cyprus' authority for maritime affairs, has been honoured with the "International Personality of the Year" award at the 2015 Lloyd's List Greek Shipping Awards held in Athens.
Merchant Shipping wins 'International Personality of the Year' awardDIRECTOR Andreas Chrysostomou of the Department of Merchant Shipping, Cyprus' authority for maritime affairs, has been honoured with the "International Personality of the Year" award at the 2015 Lloyd's List Greek Shipping Awards held in Athens.
Mr Chrysostomou, a renowned shipping personality, was elected by the panel of judges representing the Greek shipping industry. He received the award in recognition of his hard work and tireless contribution not only to Cyprus' shipping industry, but to the international maritime community.
The award winner joined the Department of Merchant Shipping in 1993 and in 1994 he was transferred to the Cyprus High Commission in London as the counsellor Maritime Affairs and alternate permanent representative of Cyprus to the International Maritime Organisation, a position he held for 10 years, a government release said.
Throughout the years he has contributed in all spheres of shipping. He has served as chairman of the design and equipment subcommittee of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO); and between 2003 and 2013 he served as chairman of the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC).
In 2004 he was transferred back to the headquarters of the Department of Merchant Shipping to head the division responsible for Maritime Policy, Multilateral Affairs and Standards.
