The Indian Coast Guard coordinated the medical evacuation of Dong Xiaoxuan, the Chinese second engineer who suffered from partial paralysis, from the 'Tao Brave', enroute to Dahej from Port Hedland. The Coast Guard deplyoed the 'Kasturba Gandhi' that was 26 nautical miles away, to the vessel. However, since the sailor was not in a critical condition, its services were not required. The local agents of the vessel, on receipt of information from the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, Mumbai at 2.45 p.m. liaised and established communication with customs, port and local police on the matter. The agent hired a tug to get Xiaoxuan medevaced and brought him to New Mangalore Port.
