    Medevac in Disko Bay

An S-61 SAR helicopter medevaced a passenger from the 'Astoria' on July 26, 2018, in Disko Bay

An S-61 SAR helicopter medevaced a passenger from the 'Astoria' on July 26, 2018, in Disko Bay. The operation stretched over 550 kilometers and lasted 6,5 hours. At 10:30 p.m. the Arctic Command was contacted by the Danish pilot on board the cruise ship in Disko Bay, approx. 200 kilometers north of the polar circle. A passenger had been seriously injured with an open bone fracture where bleeding could not be stopped. The injury required the person to be evacuated to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment. The Arctic Command chose to insert the S-61 SAR helicopter, located in Kangerlussuaq. In parallel, the efforts were coordinated with the cruise ship, continuing the course southwards towards Qasigiannguit to reduce the distance to the position chosen as a meeting point between the 'Astoria' and the S-61 SAR helicopter. Similarly, Arctic Command implemented coordination with the hospital in Nuuk, and it was decided that the patient should be treated there. On July 27 at 01:45 a.m., the patient was hoisted on board the S-61 helicopter and arrived at Nuuk airport at.5 a.m., where an ambulance was ready for further transportation. The passenger was now in good condition at the hospital in Nuuk. Report with photos: https://maritimedanmark.dk/?Id=38950
