Over 200 participants attended the Maritime Trade and Insurance Law Symposium at Istanbul University on April 3, focusing on collaboration and developments.
On April 3rd, the 'Maritime Trade and Insurance Law Symposium,' organized in collaboration with the Maritime Law Association and the Turkish Insurance Law Association, was held at Istanbul University Faculty of Law, attracting over 200 participants.
The symposium began with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Fethi Gedikli, Dean of the Istanbul University Faculty of Law. Within the program, Prof. Dr. Emine Yazıcıoğlu and Prof. Dr. Samim Ünan made evaluations in memory of Prof. Dr. Ergon Çetingil.
Emphasis on Sector and Academia Collaboration
In the final speech of the event, Ufuk Teker, General Manager of Turkish P&I Insurance, drew attention to the development of the liability regime in maritime law in Turkey. Emphasizing the importance of compliance with international standards, Teker stated that the maritime ecosystem needs to be strengthened with its insurance, legal, and technical dimensions.
Teker also noted that the collaboration between academia and the sector plays a critical role in creating a more predictable and competitive structure.
Current Developments Addressed in Three Sessions
The symposium was conducted in three sessions, chaired by Honorary President of the 11th Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation Ahmet Özgan, Member of the 11th Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation Abdullah Yaman, and Prof. Dr. Emine Yazıcıoğlu.
At the end of the event, which addressed current developments in maritime trade and insurance law, thanks were extended to the academics, speakers, and participants who contributed to the organization.
