Mexico's Port of Manzanillo reports a 9.9% rise in TEUs, with significant growth in exports and transshipment during the first half of 2026.
Mexico's Port of Manzanillo handled 2.07 million TEUs in the first half of 2026, up 9.9 per cent from 1.88 million TEUs a year earlier, reported the UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
Imports reached 847,841 TEUs, reflecting a modest 1.3 per cent increase, while exports grew by 17.1 per cent and transshipment rose by 16.2 per cent. Exports accounted for 44 per cent of throughput, imports 41 per cent, and transshipment 15 per cent, according to Asipona.
SSA Marine Mexico and Contecon Manzanillo posted gains, while TIMSA and OCUPA experienced declines. SSA Marine Mexico rose 14.2 per cent to 921,028 TEUs, and Contecon grew 15.4 per cent to 854,298 TEUs. Together, they added 228,201 TEUs, exceeding the port's net growth and offsetting losses of 40,967 TEUs at TIMSA and OCUPA.
SSA and Contecon increased their combined share from 82.1 per cent to 85.7 per cent, while TIMSA and OCUPA dropped from 17.9 per cent to 14.3 per cent. Three carriers dominated SSA's volumes: Ocean Network Express rose 22.4 per cent to 274,782 TEUs, overtaking Hapag-Lloyd, which grew 8.5 per cent to 259,477 TEUs. Maersk advanced 19 per cent to 236,383 TEUs. Together, the three accounted for 83.7 per cent of SSA's throughput.
