A large-scale Russian attack on Odesa port damages infrastructure across Ukraine, but no casualties have been reported.

Ukrainian officials reported a large-scale Russian attack targeting infrastructure across the country, including ports and energy facilities. The assault occurred overnight and continued into the morning, impacting at least 13 regions. A small cargo ship loading in the Odesa region was also hit and sustained damage.

According to statements from Ukrainian authorities, Russia launched at least 650 drones and more than 30 missiles, prompting air raid sirens to sound throughout the affected areas. Odesa Regional Governor Oleh Kiper confirmed that damage occurred in ports, energy, transportation, industry, and residential areas, although no casualties or injuries were reported.

The bulk carrier, which was struck while loading soybeans at the Odesa port complex, was flying the Lebanese flag. Published photos indicated that a fire broke out on the vessel, with firefighting teams responding on board.

"Once again, the Odesa region and port infrastructure are under enemy attack. Civil warehouses and critical energy facilities have been damaged," stated Oleksii Kuleba, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction.

Images shared by the Ukrainian State Emergency Service showed firefighting teams working on the damaged ship. Reports indicated that at least one warehouse in the port complex was damaged, and the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority announced that infrastructure and administrative buildings at the Port of Reni also suffered damage.

In a previous Russian missile attack on the Odesa port complex and city, at least eight people were killed, and 27 were injured, with some casualties occurring on a city bus that was hit.

Energy infrastructure remains a primary target; a thermal power plant operated by Ukraine's largest private energy company, DTEK, was damaged and went offline. The Zaporizhia Steel Plant also reported power outages, leading to an urgent halt in production.

Additionally, it was reported that Russia recently struck the Pivdennyi Port, causing a fire in the port area and igniting approximately 30 tankers used for storing flour and vegetable oil.

Ukrainian media noted that expectations for a pause in attacks during the Christmas period have weakened.
