Maersk changes the Payer Amendment Fee calculation method, shifting from ETA to invoice generation dates effective October 8, 2026.
Under the revised method, the amendment window will no longer be calculated from a shipment's Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA). Instead, it will be determined by the generation date of the first collect/import invoice and the first Demurrage/Storage and Detention invoice. The October 8, 2026, date applies to requests to reissue an invoice.
The Payer Amendment Fee - Destination is an existing charge. It applies when a customer requests a change to the party responsible for paying charges at a shipment's destination. The upcoming change affects only the basis for calculating the amendment window, not the fee itself.
Historically, Maersk measured the permissible amendment window from the ETA. From October 8, 2026, the company will anchor that window to invoice generation dates: the first collect/import invoice and the first Demurrage/Storage and Detention invoice.
Requests submitted after the applicable threshold will continue to incur the PAD fee. According to Maersk, the fee - including its tariff and currency - will be applied based on the cargo's destination country.
Because thresholds and rates vary by destination, the practical amendment window may differ from one trade lane to another. Cargo owners managing shipments across multiple markets should review how the change affects each destination they serve.
