Maersk Elba Becomes Largest Ship to Call in Israel

The Maersk containership Maersk Elba became the largest ship to call in Israel on Thursday (Feb.2 2017) after docking at Haifa Port’s Carmel Terminal. The Carmel Terminal was inaugurated in 2010 as the largest and most advanced terminal in Isreal with capacity to grow to 1 million teu per year. The terminal currently has six super post Panamax cranes, which can accommodate some of the world’s largest containerships, such as the 13,100 TEU Maersk Elba. The port is even planning to bring in the larger 18,000+ teu ships, like the Triple-E’s, sometime down the road.
