    Macau's air cargo up 10pc, commercial flights surge 13pc in 2018

    AIR cargo volume in Macau grew by 10

    AIR cargo volume in Macau grew by 10.6 per cent year on year to 41,481 tonnes, while commercial flights in the former Portuguese enclave increased by 13.1 per cent to over 62,048 trips, according to the Special Administrative Region's (SAR) statistics service. The figures show that the gross weight of inward air cargo (7,083 tonnes) and outward cargo (27,521 tonnes), increased by 6.6 per cent and 17.8 per cent respectively compared to 2017. The gross weight of transit cargo (6,877 tonnes) handled at Macau International Airport decreased by 8.2 per cent.

    Commercial flights to and from China and Thailand grew by 20.9 per cent and 20.8 per cent respectively, while commercial flights to and from South Korea and Vietnam fell by 15.5 per cent and 8.8 per cent in 2018 respectively.

    Helicopter flights between Macau and the Chinese mainland and between Macau and Hong Kong in 2018 rose by 2.7 per cent year on year to a total of 13,089 trips.

    Ferry trips between Macau and the China and between Macau and Hong Kong totalled 131,740 in 2018, down by 5.1 per cent year on year. Trips between Hong Kong and Macau also dropped 1.9 per cent to 111,186 compared to the previous year.

    The sea port in Macau handled a total of 138,639 TEU in 2018, up 6.8 per cent over 2018, reports Xinhua.
