King Abdullah Port ready to help Jeddah in pre-Ramadan cargo surge SAUDI Arabia's King Abdullah Port says it is ready for pre-Ramadan surge and will alleviate traditional pressure on Red Sea ports, reports Dubai's Maritime Standard. A statement from the port, located north of Jeddah, claimed that during the period leading up to the holy month starting June 6, commercial traffic in Saudi Arabia will benefit from its extra capacity. The new port says capacity now amounts to more than three million TEU annually, and able to prevent a backlog and ensure the smooth flow of goods to the Saudi markets. In 2015, its second year in service, the port achieved a throughput of 1.3 million TEU. Business is expected to be given a further boost by the commissioning of three berths from May to the end of this year, raising annual capacity to over four million TEU.  The first phase of a new bulk cargo and ro-ro terminal is also scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2016.
