JAPANESE shipping giant Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ("K" Line) will merge its ship management subsidiaries Taiyo Nippon Kaisha and Escobal Japan in July, the company announced.

According to "K" Line, the two companies will be merged to reorganise and consolidate the group's management system to become more "environmentally-friendly", reported American Shipper.

Next year they will be called "K" Line RORO and Bulk Ship Management Co Ltd, but remain Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co Ltd until then.

The company said it will hold three specialised ship management companies after the merger: "K" Line Ship Management (box ships, tankers and gas carriers), "K" Line LNG Shipping and Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co Ltd (car carriers/ dry bulk).
