"K" LINE earns its ninth A List rating in CDP climate assessment, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and low-carbon initiatives.
On December 10, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" LINE) was recognized as an A List company for 2025 by the CDP climate change assessment. This prestigious A List designation is the highest rating awarded by CDP based on responses to their corporate questionnaire, marking the ninth consecutive time that "K" LINE has achieved this recognition since first being selected in 2016.
This selection reflects "K" LINE's transparency and leadership in corporate sustainability amidst the challenges posed by climate change. CDP, a London-based non-governmental organization (NGO), evaluates companies on an eight-point scale based on their responses to a questionnaire concerning climate change risks, opportunities, and actions. In 2025, CDP collaborates with over 640 financial institutions worldwide, managing total assets exceeding 127 trillion U.S. dollars. Approximately 24,800 companies participated in the questionnaire, with only the top 4% receiving the A List rating.
As part of its long-term management vision, "K" LINE is dedicated to facilitating a smooth energy transition for both the company and society, advancing efforts towards a low-carbon and decarbonized future. In line with the "K" LINE Environmental Vision 2050 long-term guidelines, the company has set a goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. To support this vision, "K" LINE plans to allocate 55% of its total investments (90% if LNG carriers are included) towards new low-carbon initiatives, including LNG-fueled vessels, liquefied CO2 carriers, offshore support vessels, and environmentally friendly technologies such as Seawing automated kite systems.
"K" LINE is actively pursuing low-carbon and decarbonization strategies through innovative initiatives, such as the introduction of LNG-fueled vessels and the installation of Seawing automated kite systems that harness wind power. The company is also expanding its liquefied CO2 carrier business to establish a carbon capture and storage (CCS) value chain. Furthermore, "K" LINE is engaged in various councils and demonstration projects aimed at advancing the practical use of zero-emission vessels. It was among the first to adopt the LEAP approach advocated by the Taskforce on Nature-Related Disclosures (TNFD). The company recognizes the importance of addressing both climate change and biodiversity preservation as critical themes, and its ongoing efforts to minimize the environmental impact of its operations have led to this positive evaluation.
The "K" LINE Group will continue to enhance its information disclosure practices, grounded in a comprehensive understanding of climate change and natural capital. The company aims to grow and increase its corporate value as a trusted partner to all stakeholders.
