Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha's LNG carriers receive the prestigious MPA Green Ship Award for their commitment to environmental sustainability.
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ('K' LINE) Group has earned a notable environmental distinction in Singapore. Its LNG carriers Puteri Johor and Puteri Kedah have received the Green Ship Award under the Green Ship Programme, which is administered by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
The 'K' LINE Group owns and operates the two vessels through joint venture companies. Their registered owner, Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., shares in the recognition. The MPA presented the award at the Singapore Registry of Ships Forum 2026, held on October 2, 2026.
The MPA presents the Green Ship Award to vessels and shipowners that have helped reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable maritime transportation across the shipping industry. The honor reflects performance in day-to-day operations, not just stated intent.
Both award-winning vessels are equipped with X-DF main engines, a dual-fuel engine design recognized for its high environmental efficiency. 'Dual-fuel' means the engines can run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and conventional liquid fuel. This flexibility allows the vessels to lower their environmental footprint while maintaining dependable performance at sea.
Puteri Johor and Puteri Kedah reflect the broader 'K' LINE Group commitment to reducing environmental impact across its operations. The award confirms that this strategy is delivering measurable results.
