ANA Holdings, parent of All Nippon Airways, plans to test pharma delivery drones in Zambia and develop an inter-island transportation network in Goto city, Japan. In Zambia, ANA is partnering with drone company Aerosense Inc and the National Centre for Global Health and Medicine to build a sustainable drone transportation network for blood samples, reported London's Air Cargo News.
According to the company, rapid blood testing in rural areas is considered crucial in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and other devastating diseases.
As part of an agreement with the Zambian government, the company will deploy its drones in the country from the start of next year through June 2021.
ANA will also build drone infrastructure in Goto city, as part of its collaboration with the local government and Autonomous Control Systems Laboratories, NTT DOCOMO and PRODUCTION NAP.
The drone initiative is part of Japan's Drone i-Land project, with half of its budget funded by the Cabinet Office's Regional Revitalisation Promotion Grants.
