Japan's 'K' Line makes yards in India, offers bulk coastal shipping
"K" LINE (India) Private Ltd (KLIN), the Japanese transportation group's subsidiary company in India, has begun coastal shipping operations with the transportation of 55,000 tons of iron ore from the east coast to Mumbai on the west coast using a chartered vessel.
The expansion of its operations into this area comes in response to growing demand for the coastal transportation of bulk cargo such as iron ore and coal.
It follows on from the company's land transportation in India of motorcycles by triple decker motorcycle carriers and of steel materials, which the company says has been making "satisfactory progress".
A statement said, "These services are in line with our desire to provide comprehensive logistics services to meet customer needs that utilise strong local ties."
The company added that it plans to expand into the coastal transportation business in other areas of Asia as well.
