    The maritime declaration is an ancient institution still in force in Finland, Sweden and Denmark. Norway abolished it in 2008. The provisions for maritime declaration are unclear and ambiguous. The Finnish provisions do not fulfil the requirements for good governance, fair trial and privilege against self-incrimination. A master of a Finnish vessel is obliged to give a maritime declaration
