Iran claims Ukraine attacked its commercial vessel, killing one sailor and injuring another, prompting a diplomatic protest.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a commercial vessel linked to Iran was attacked by Ukraine in the Caspian Sea. It was reported that one sailor was killed and another injured in the explosion that occurred on the ship.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterized the attack on the Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea as a 'hostile and criminal act.' According to the Tehran administration, an explosion occurred on the ship following the attack; one sailor lost his life, and one crew member was injured.

Following the incident, Iran summoned Ukraine's chargé d'affaires in Tehran to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and issued a protest note. Iranian authorities claimed that the attack was directed against the country's national interests and security, while alleging that Ukraine was attempting to spread the war to new territories.

In contrast, the name of the ship, its IMO number, flag, cargo, the exact coordinates of the attack, and the weapon system used were not disclosed. Ukraine has also not provided a detailed statement directly confirming the loss of life on this vessel. Therefore, at this stage, the incident should be reported as the official claim of Iranian authorities.

The fact that the Caspian Sea is a closed sea makes this case particularly significant. Unlike the Black Sea, which has direct connections to open seas, a long-range attack conducted in the Caspian Sea raises new questions regarding the drone's launch point, the airspaces of regional states, and military intelligence networks. This time, the fog is not on the water but in the identity of the ship.
