Turkish P&I Insurance A.Ş. stresses the importance of reviewing insurance and legal responsibilities before yacht rentals this holiday season.

Turkish P&I Insurance Inc. has emphasized the importance of reviewing critical points regarding insurance and legal responsibilities in the yacht rental world on the Yat360 page, indicating that these aspects should be considered before the holiday season. As interest in yacht rentals increases during the summer season, experts advise that careful attention should be given to insurance coverage, contract terms, and the technical condition of the vessel prior to rental.

One of the most commonly preferred methods in the yacht rental sector is bareboat chartering, where the vessel is delivered without a captain or crew. Therefore, the risks and responsibilities that may arise during the use of the vessel are directly attributed to the renter.

    Pre-delivery inspection is essential.

According to experts, conducting a detailed physical inspection when taking delivery of the vessel and upon its return is of great importance. It is recommended to check the overall condition of the vessel, its equipment, and inventory, and to document these findings using a checklist. It is emphasized that these records serve as evidence in potential disputes.

Navigational charts and policy coverage should be reviewed.

The currency of electronic or printed navigational charts is also deemed critical for safe navigation. It is noted that outdated charts could lead to grounding and similar accidents.

On the insurance side, it is stated that the vessel must have valid hull insurance and third-party liability insurance. However, it is recorded that merely having a policy is not sufficient; the area of operation, exemption amounts, and exclusions must be thoroughly examined.

    Contract clauses must be clear.

It is expressed that the rental contract should clearly state the area of operation, deposit, cancellation conditions, and the recourse provisions applicable in case of damage. Additionally, the renter must possess a valid maritime license and act in accordance with the relevant legislation.

Experts highlight that carefully reading the contract, examining insurance exclusions, and documenting the condition of the vessel at the time of delivery are indispensable elements for a trouble-free yacht holiday.
