Maritime organizations issue guidance for vessels in the Strait of Hormuz amid rising security concerns, enhancing safety and operational readiness.
Global maritime organizations have released new guidance to assist vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened regional security risks, reports Denmark's Shipping Telegraph.
The 22-page document, titled 'Industry Guidance on the Safe Management of Vessel Transit through the Strait of Hormuz,' was published on May 20. It provides operational advice for ships entering, leaving, or navigating within the Gulf region during periods of instability.
The guidance was jointly issued by the International Chamber of Shipping, BIMCO, Intercargo, Intertanko, IMCA, and OCIMF. It includes a Bridge Quick-Reference Card to help crews manage transit procedures under pressure.
Vessels face a high workload and stressful operating conditions in the strait, with risks such as GNSS jamming or spoofing highlighted in the report. The industry groups stated that the guidance aims to improve safety and preparedness for operators in one of the world's most sensitive maritime chokepoints.
