The 29th session of IMO Asembly will be held from 23 November to 2 December 2015 at IMO Headquarters in London. All 171 IMO Member States and three Associate Members may attend.
The IMO Assembly, the Organization's highest governing body, meets every two years. It is responsible for approving the Organization's work programme and budget for the next two years and electing the 40-Member Council. This year it will also confirm the election of the next IMO Secretary-General.The 29th session of IMO asembly will be held from 23 November to 2 December 2015 at IMO Headquarters in London. Media may attend certain sessions but other sessions are closed. Opening ceremony Monday 23 November, 11.30 Features speeches by the incoming and outgoing Assembly Presidents, the IMO Secretary-General and UK Shipping Minister the right Hon Robert Goodwill, MP. Appointment of the next IMO Secretary-General Thursday 26 November, 09:30 The Assembly will approve the election of the next IMO Secretary-General Mr Kitack Lim (Republic of Korea). Mr. Lim will address the Assembly. Election of the IMO Council Friday 27 November Candidates will speak in plenary during the morning. The election will be by secret ballot in the afternoon. Results are expected late afternoon. Adoption of resolutions Wednesday 2 December am Farewell to Mr. Sekimizu Wednesday 2 December pm Outgoing Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu is expected to deliver a farewell address. Assembly closes. Side events IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea Thursday 19 November 18.00 The prestigious annual ceremony for the IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea was held in the evening of Thursday 19 November. IMO International Maritime Prize ceremony Monday 23 November 17.30 Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of the Nippon Foundation, will be presented with the International Maritime Prize for his contribution to the work of IMO over many years and, in particular, his personal commitment the development of future maritime leaders and his contribution to the enhancement of safety and security in vital shipping lanes.
