KOREA's Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has taken charge of three container berths, once operated by the bankrupt Hanjin Shipping from Taiwan's Port of Kaohsiung, increasing the number of HMM-run berths to five.

The state-run Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) that manages the country's, formally announced that HMM had taken over berths 76, 77 and 78 from Hanjin.

The three berths have an annual handling capacity of 640,000 TEU, representing about six per cent of Kaohsiung's 10.6 million TEU achieved in 2016.
