Port Houston reports a historic 2.23 million TEU in H1 2026, marking a 3% increase and the highest first-half volume ever recorded.

Port Houston handled 2,229,473 TEU in the first half of 2026, a 3 per cent increase year-on-year and the largest first-half container volume in its history, reported London's Container Management.

June throughput rose 18 per cent to 389,962 TEU compared with the same month last year, with loaded imports surging 27 per cent to 177,097 TEU. Loaded exports slipped 2 per cent to 131,011 TEU in June, while first-half loaded exports were flat at 800,967 TEU.

Total public terminal tonnage reached more than 28 million tons through June, up 3 per cent compared with the first half of 2025. Port Houston Chief Executive Charlie Jenkins stated that the region remained resilient and the port was well-positioned for long-term growth and competitiveness.

The broader Houston Ship Channel region saw total trade increase 17 per cent through May, driven by a 23 per cent rise in exports year-on-year, while import tonnage declined 4 per cent.
