    FIGURES from the Hong Kong Marine Department show that container throughput at the Port of Hong Kong fell again in April to 1.55 million TEU, 2.9 per cent lower than the 1.6 million TEU moved in the same month last year. For the year to date, the cumulative slowdown in pace is starting to drag, with overall throughput also down 7.3 per cent to 5.94 million TEU compared to the first three months of 2018.

    The main Kwai Tsing terminals saw throughput down 5.2 per cent in April to 1.21 million TEU from 1.28 million TEU in April 2018.

    But non-Kwai Tsing terminals saw an increase of 6.5 per cent to 319,000 TEU. For the year-to-date, non-Kwai Tsing throughput fell 7.1 per cent to 1.3 million TEU.
