THE next phase of the Clean Trucks Programme in the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles has begun with harbour trucks entering service required to be no older than 2014 model, reports American Shipper. Modernising the port trucking fleet led to reductions in pollution, with a 79 per cent decline in smog-forming nitrogen oxides, while sulphur oxides have plummeted 91 per cent and greenhouse gas emissions are down 24 per cent.

The ports' Clean Air Action Plan also has cut emissions from ships, locomotives, container yard equipment and harbour craft like tugboats, a press release from the Port of Long Beach said.
