Hapag-Lloyd sets a USD 400 per TEU surcharge for cargo from Asia and Oceania to Northwest Africa, effective October 25, 2026.
Hamburg-based carrier sets USD 400 per TEU PSS for cargo bound for Nouakchott, Dakar, Freetown, Monrovia, and Banjul, effective October 25, 2026.
Hapag-Lloyd, the world's fifth-largest container line, will introduce a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on cargo moving from Asia and Oceania to five ports in Northwest Africa. With a fleet of 289 vessels and more than 2.4 million TEU of capacity, the carrier holds roughly 7% of global liner capacity. Its latest pricing update directly affects cargo owners, importers, and logistics providers active on these trade lanes.
The PSS applies to shipments originating in China, Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Oceania and bound for the following destination ports: Nouakchott, Mauritania; Dakar, Senegal; Freetown, Sierra Leone; Monrovia, Liberia; and Banjul, The Gambia. A TEU, or twenty-foot equivalent unit, is the standard measure of container capacity. One 20-foot container equals one TEU, and a standard 40-foot container equals two TEU.
