Rotterdam-based Hanseatic Global Terminals has acquired a 50 per cent stake in Hanseatic Global Terminals Aracruz SA, formerly Imetame Logística Porto SA, after securing regulatory approvals, reports Saint Petersburg's PortNews.

The deal creates a joint venture with Brazil's Imetame Group to develop and operate a new container terminal in Aracruz, Espírito Santo. The agreement between the two companies was signed in December 2025.

The terminal, scheduled to begin operations in mid-2028, will serve as a transshipment hub and gateway for Brazil's east coast. It will feature a 17-metre draft, 750 metres of quay length, container handling equipment, and an annual capacity of about 1.2 million TEU.

HGT chief executive Dheeraj Bhatia stated that the project will strengthen regional connectivity, expand capacity, and provide more efficient access to global markets. Imetame chairman Etore Selvatici Cavallieri remarked that the partnership would deliver operational excellence and create opportunities for the region.

HGT indicated that the transaction supports its plan to expand its portfolio to more than 30 terminals by 2030. Financial details were not disclosed.

Hanseatic Global Terminals, a Rotterdam-based subsidiary of Hapag-Lloyd, manages terminal and logistics interests in 13 countries. Imetame Group, headquartered in Aracruz, operates across metalworking, energy, oil and gas, and is developing a private terminal platform for containers, general cargo, solid bulk, liquid bulk, and ship-to-ship operations.
