The Suigang Electric Navigation 02 departs Guangzhou for Hong Kong, marking the first zero-carbon container shipping route in the Greater Bay Area.

The largest inland container intelligent electric vessel in South China, the Suigang Electric Navigation 02, has departed from Guangzhou Port's Nansha Phase III Terminal bound for Hong Kong International Terminals, carrying furniture, daily goods, and other cargo produced in Guangdong Province. The vessel's maiden voyage marks the official launch of the Greater Bay Area's first zero-carbon container shipping route linking Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Operating on a zero-emission, low-noise green water transport model, the route establishes a dedicated logistics corridor between Guangzhou Nansha and Hong Kong. Each vessel reduces carbon emissions by more than 550 tonnes annually, with a projected lifecycle carbon reduction of 19,000 tonnes. The route carries significant demonstrative value for advancing the national 'dual carbon' strategy, deepening Guangdong-Hong Kong shipping cooperation, and injecting sustained green momentum into the coordinated development of the Greater Bay Area's world-class port cluster.

As the primary carrier on this zero-carbon container route, the Suigang Electric Navigation series represents South China's first generation of inland container intelligent electric vessels. The vessels employ an innovative containerised power 'charge-and-swap' energy replenishment model, resolving the endurance limitations of electric vessels through battery hoisting swap or direct charging methods. Each vessel accommodates 240 TEUs, balancing cargo capacity with operational efficiency. The ships are equipped with a vessel-wide intelligent operation and maintenance platform that delivers full-process digital management of energy consumption monitoring, equipment maintenance, and ship-shore coordination. Compared with conventional fuel-powered vessels, the series achieves zero emissions and zero pollution throughout its voyages. It has been listed in the National Development and Reform Commission's catalogue of green and low-carbon advanced technology demonstration projects, providing a replicable and scalable 'Guangzhou model' for the electrification of inland vessels nationwide.

The opening of this Guangzhou-Hong Kong zero-carbon route represents a leap forward for Guangzhou Port - from clean energy substitution to zero-carbon propulsion application - connecting the two major international shipping hubs of Guangzhou Nansha and Hong Kong through a dedicated green logistics corridor.

In recent years, Guangzhou Port Group has actively advanced the transformation of its operations from traditional transport services to integrated green and intelligent logistics, with a strategic focus on building the 'Greater Bay Area Green Intelligent Shipping' brand. Through a scheduled liner operating model, the Group delivers safe, cost-effective, and efficient end-to-end supply chain services and support to liner companies and customers, ensuring the stable and unobstructed operation of the Greater Bay Area's industrial and supply chains.

Guangzhou Port Group has set out to establish three flagship benchmarks. First, leveraging the Suigang Electric Navigation series, it aims to build a 'technology benchmark' for zero-carbon intelligent electrification, exporting a replicable Guangzhou model for inland vessel electrification. Second, drawing on the mature network of its 'Shuttle Bus' services, it seeks to establish a 'shipping benchmark' for Greater Bay Area connectivity, linking the Nansha and Hong Kong shipping hubs through zero-carbon routes. Third, building on achievements in shore power, photovoltaics, and port equipment electrification, it endeavours to set an 'ecological benchmark' for full-chain green operations, collaborating with stakeholders to advance the construction of a transport powerhouse and a model zone for a beautiful China.

Guangzhou Port Group has affirmed its commitment to leveraging the strategic advantages of its port hub to empower the development of the Greater Bay Area's world-class port cluster through green shipping, contributing the strength of Guangzhou Port to the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and to the national vision of building a transport powerhouse.
