GSD Holding is modernizing its fleet with new ship investments and optimization, enhancing operational efficiency in maritime transport.

GSD Holding continues to steadily grow its maritime activities through recent new ship investments and fleet optimization steps, while transforming its fleet into a younger and more modern structure.

Operating in the maritime and financial services sectors, GSD Holding is pursuing its investments in maritime transportation in line with a strategic plan. With the recent steps taken, the company has increased its investments in new generation ships and has carried out fleet renewal moves that support operational efficiency.

Through its subsidiaries GSD Denizcilik and GSD Shipping B.V., GSD Holding has made significant investments in new generation bulk carriers that will be delivered in the coming years, in accordance with agreements signed with leading shipbuilding groups in Japan. The ships, which will be built in Japanese shipyards with varying capacities, will join the fleet in a way that strengthens the group's international maritime transportation activities with their high fuel efficiency designs.

The latest step within the scope of these investments was the signing of a letter of intent for the purchase of an ultramax type bulk carrier to be built in Japan, between the Netherlands-based subsidiary GSD Shipping B.V. and Sumisho Marine Co. Ltd., which operates under the guarantee of Sumitomo Corporation.

    Steps to Strengthen Operational Structure

In this process, the company has transformed its fleet into a more modern and competitive structure not only through new ship investments but also through sales transactions carried out as part of fleet optimization. GSD Holding has continued to renew its operational structure in a balanced manner by reducing older tonnage through these sales while incorporating new and more efficient ships into its fleet.

The sale of the ultramax type Zeyno took place in 2024, and the handysize type Olivia was sold in 2025. Following the delivery of the ultramax type S. Selim in 2025, the bulk carrier named M/V Guzide, which joined the fleet in 2026, has also started its commercial operations. With the new ships planned to be delivered in the coming years, GSD Holding's fleet will gain a stronger structure in terms of both capacity and technology.

“We are growing our fleet while also modernizing it”

Hakan Yılmaz, General Manager of GSD Denizcilik, made the following assessment regarding the recent investments: “We are conducting our maritime activities with a long-term and disciplined investment approach. With the new ship investments and strategic sales we have made recently, we are growing our fleet while also transforming it into a younger and more modern structure. As of today, we have an active fleet consisting of 10 ships within the group and 7 new ships under construction, including our Güzide ship, which we received last week. With the new tonnage to be delivered in the coming years, both the number of ships in our fleet and our total carrying capacity will increase significantly.”

Yılmaz also noted in his assessment: “As GSD Holding, our strategic focus is on geared tonnage, which refers to handysize and ultramax segment bulk carriers that have their own cranes. Ships in this segment play a significant role in global trade by providing operational flexibility even in areas with limited port infrastructure. The high occupancy rates in global shipyards and the prolongation of new ship delivery times indicate that the supply of new tonnage may remain limited in the medium term. In this context, we aim to strengthen our fleet by continuing to grow in this segment. With the modern tonnage to be built in Japanese shipyards, we aim to increase our operational efficiency. As GSD Holding, we will resolutely continue our growth strategy in maritime transportation with our strong balance sheet and international business partners.”

GSD Holding continues to strengthen its fleet structure with the most modern ships and efficiency-focused investments by closely following developments in the international maritime transportation market. The company aims to strengthen its position in global maritime activities with strategic ship investments in the upcoming period.
