    Grounding off Oxelösund

The "ESL Africa" ran aground southwest of Oxelösund on Oct 21, 2017, around 6.30 p.m. two hours after departing from Norkköping to Dakar. At 8.21 p.m., the Swedish Coast Guard and the Maritime and Aviation Rescue Center (JRCC) were informed about the grounding southwest of Hummelvik. The "KBV 452" attended from Oxelösund, followed by the he environmental protection vessel "KBV 031" from Nynäshamn at midnight. The surveillance vessel "KBV 311" arrived in the night with divers on board to investigate the hull. No oil spill was observed in the water during inspections. The weather was good and diver went down to check the hull on Oct 22. At 10.29 a.m. the ship was refloated and headed with its own engine back to Oxelösund which was the closest major port. She was accompanied by the "KBV 031" and "KBV 503". The grounding was caused by engine problems. The ship's officers were routinely drug tested with negative results.
