THE total volume of air cargo volumes exported from Germany fell 24.6 per cent in June, as measured by weight, compared with the same month last year, said the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Among the top 10 cargo airlines, Qatar Airways, with a market share of 5.1 per cent, was the hardest hit, with volumes down 37 per cent year on year, followed by the sixth-placed Emirates, down 33 per cent (market share 4.4 per cent) and tenth-placed United Airlines which saw volumes plunge 32.6 per cent (market share 2.6 per cent), reported London's Air Cargo News.
Second-placed Cargolux scored relatively well with a decline in volumes of 2.9 per cent compared with June 2018 (market share 9.2 per cent).
First place Lufthansa Cargo, with a market share of 23.3 per cent, posted a 16.7 per cent decrease in freight by weight.
As for the top 10 forwarders, the volume drop was worst felt by tenth-placed UPS Supply Chain Solutions, which saw volumes plummet by 53 per cent year on year in June (market share two per cent).
DSV Air & Sea recorded a volume drop of 40.2 per cent (market share 3.6 per cent) and market leader Kuehne + Nagel suffered a volume decline of 29.9 per cent (market share 13.2 per cent).
Schenker in third place with an 11 per cent market share, saw its June volumes drop 25 per cent year on year, while Germany's number two forwarder, DHL Global Forwarding with a market share of 9.1 per cent, recorded a volume decline of 15.9 per cent in June.
