Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd's Gemini Cooperation boosts on-time performance in 2025, outperforming standalone services, according to S&P Global.

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd improved their on-time performance in 2025, with their Gemini Cooperation alliance demonstrating stronger reliability than standalone services, reported London's S&P Global.

Xeneta's Schedule Reliability Scorecard revealed that Maersk achieved 56 percent of ships arriving on time, with an average delay of two days, up from 37 percent in 2024. Hapag-Lloyd reached 52 percent on-time performance with a three-day delay, compared to about 20 percent in 2024.

Vessels operating under the Gemini alliance recorded an impressive 81 percent schedule reliability, the highest among global carriers. Xeneta noted that the data underscores how non-alliance services generally fall short of the optimized structure provided by Gemini.

Average delays across 12 global carriers were approximately four-and-a-half days. Cosco Shipping and Wan Hai Lines experienced delays of just under three-and-a-half days, while HMM recorded the longest delays at eight-and-a-half days.

The Ocean Alliance improved to 26 percent on-time performance in 2025, up from 20 percent in 2024, driven by gains at CMA CGM and Cosco. Evergreen Marine lagged behind at 25 percent. Xeneta suggested that shippers may benefit from choosing CMA CGM or Cosco services over Evergreen.

Premier Alliance partners Ocean Network Express and Yang Ming saw their on-time performance near 26 percent, while HMM was only at 15 percent. Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) recorded 25 percent with nearly five-day delays.

Zim Integrated Shipping Services improved to 36 percent on-time performance, up from 27 percent in 2024, placing it among the top three carriers last year.
