The Rijeka Port Authorities, which have been informed by the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, launched an investigation on the causes of the sudden list of the "Gulf Forest" which in the Bratislava dock suddenly listed about 25 side to starboard and, while the cargo of 1700 cbm wood was removed, to port. None of the Syrian crew of 10 was injured and no pollution reported. The tugs "Lukas" and "Mak" had stabilized the vessel. Unofficially, it was assumed that the reason for the list was a malfunction of the ship's ballast tanks caused by corrosion of pipes connecting the tanks, as well as overloading. After unloading was finished on Jan 19, the vessel returned on even keel. The ship had entered Rijeka on Jan 7. Nautical and marine engineering inspectors found a total of 16 deficiencies and the vessel may only proceed after repairs. Other defiencies were a lack of valves for pumping bilge water in an emergency, defective fuel tanks, missing fire and emergency drill a.o.
