Unofficially, it was assumed that the reason for the list was a malfunction of the ship's ballast tanks caused by corrosion of pipes connecting the tanks, as well as overloading. Nautical and marine engineering inspectors found a total of 16 deficiencies and the vessel may only proceed after repairs.
