A fire broke out in the engine room of fishing (general) Frosti (327 gt, built 2001), when the vessel was positioned 60 nautical miles north west of Aoalvik, on the north west corner of Iceland, at around 1500 hrs, on Oct. 2. Trawlers which were fishing close to the vessel came up to it and were ready to assist if needed. The Coast guard vessel Tyr which was positioned nearby sailed towards the vessel and was alongside it around at 1800 hrs. Two helicopters from the Icelandic coast guard were called out and one of them transported a smoke diver on board. According to information the vessel managed to extinguish the fire and operate the auxiliary engine in order to hoist in the trawl. One crew member was lifted from board by one of the helicopters as it was suspected that he suffered from smoke inhalation. According to information the plan is that the vessel will be towed by Tyr to port in Hafnarfjorour. It is estimate that the tow will take around 30 hrs.
