The 'Ocean Researcher 3' suffered a fire while undergoing routine maintenance at a port in Qijin district in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on Sep 27, 2018. Welding sparks may have caused the fire in the cabin area, the crew could not put out the fire. Firefighters were able to fully extinguish the fire after two hours. The National Sun Yat-sen University was investigating the fire.
