On Jan 14, 2018, the 'Sansovino' which connects Porto Empedocle with Linosa and Lampedusa, suffered a failure in one of the engines about three miles from Linosa and was forced to return to port. On board were 65 passengers and several freight trucks. The ferry arrived at Porto Empedocle around 7.20 p.m. The 'Pietro Novelli' was called to replace the ferry on Jan 15 and take on board 4.000 boxes fresh fish which had remained on the quay of Lampedusa, bound to Porto Empedocle.
