Ferry ran aground near New Jersey

Personnel of the Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook oversaw the safe transfer of 95 passengers from the "Whaling City Express" on March 23, 2017, at 11.15 p.m. near Highlands, New Jersey, after the ferry with 95 passengers aboard ran aground 200 yards from the pier in Highlands, N.J. A Coast Guard rescue crew was sent from the Station Sandy Hook. The rescue crew arrived on scene and oversaw the safe transfer of passengers from the "Whaling City Express" to the ferry "New Jersey". During the transfer the grounded ferry re-floated and the rescue crew escorted both ferries to the pier. Sector New York marine investigators conducted an investigation to ensure the integrity of the vessel prior to the vessel operating again.
