    The bulk carrier Newlead Markela  suffered an explosion in its cargo of coal on Nov 13, 2010, at 2 p.m., followed by a fire, which could be extinguished soon.

    The Newlead Markela suffered an explosion in its cargo of coal on Nov 13, 2010, at 2 p.m., followed by a fire, which could be extinguished soon. One man of the crew of 25 suffered burns and had to be taken to hospital by helicopter. The ship was 85 km northwest of Den Helder at that time, wind 6 bf, wave height 2 metres. The vessel later was able continue its voayge to Swinoujscie in Poland. Reported fire & explosion in 53 02.5 N 003 25.9 E 13 Nov 2010. Fire under control & proceeding on voyage. 1 crew member injured.
