THE International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) has appointed Hans Kersten as deputy director and director general designate after the retirement of Marco Sorgetti in September.
Mr Kersten, a qualified lawyer who speaks five European languages, was previously International Union of Railways (UIC) freight director and has worked for Deutsche Bahn in various senior management positions for 18 years, according to media reports.
During a recent visit to the FIATA Secretariat in Glattbrugg, Switzerland, Mr Kersten expressed how honoured he felt about his nomination and that he was looking forward to the new and interesting challenges.
In welcoming his new deputy director, Mr Sorgetti, said: "I am sure a person with your professional background will add another layer of accomplishments in the long list of extraordinary achievements of this association. I am delighted we shall have some time to ensure that the passing of the baton happens in the most efficient and professional manner."
