Erasmus Shipinvest orders four 1,900 TEU feeder ships from CSSC Huangpu Wenchong, enhancing its containership and dry bulk capabilities.
Erasmus Shipinvest has ordered up to four 1,900 TEU feeder ships at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, continuing its containership and dry bulk newbuilding drive, reported UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
CSSC China Shipbuilding Trading signed the construction contract with Erasmus Shipinvest for 2+2 vessels from the 'Honghu (Swan)' series. The deal marks the third cooperation between the Greek owner and Huangpu Wenchong in six months, following earlier contracts for 1,800 TEU and 1,900 TEU ships.
The Swan series has accumulated 30 deliveries and 44 vessels on order. Recent buyers include Hong Kong's EPGN, South Korea's Namsung Shipping and Dongyoung Shipping, and Venergy Maritime, which firmed options for 1,900 TEU ships earlier this year.
The 1,900 TEU Swan design measures 172 metres in length, with a breadth of 27.5 metres and deadweight tonnage of about 24,000 tons. The yard stated that the type offers large container capacity, low per-TEU transport cost, operational flexibility, and high navigation speed.
Erasmus Shipinvest operates nearly 70 ocean-going vessels across dry bulk, feeder container, LPG, multi-purpose, and tanker segments. The company has also placed feeder orders at Taizhou Sanfu Shipbuilding for 4+2 2,400 TEU ships worth about US$270 million and firmed four kamsarmax bulkers at Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry in June, bringing its order book there to eight ships valued at about $296 million.
