On June 25, 2018, at 11.30 p.m. the Finnish Coastguard was alerted due to a suspected fire in the engine room of the 'Bow Pioneer' which had sailed from Ust-Luga on June 24 short past noon and was bound to Porvoo. The crew of 26 of the unloaded vessel had issued a mayday call SW of Kalbåda ground after smoke development in the engine room. The Coastguard in Porvoo, the patrol boat 'Turva“ (IMO-No.: 9650377), and the MIRG Rescue Department in Turku and Helsinki responded. After the smoke was cleared, it turned out that there was no open fire, but an overheated electric motor had caused the smoke. The ship dropped anchor, but as the situation turned out to be stable, the tanker continued the voyage with own power, escorted by the 'Turva' during the night hours as a precaution. It berthed at the Neste Oil Refinery on June 27 at 2.45 a.m.
