    Engine failure in Istanbul Strait

    Yesterday morning, Bulk carrier Meraki suffered engine failure while at the entrance of Strait of Istanbul (Bosporus) Istanbul, at 1005 LT Feb 03 2011.

    MERAKI with the tug arrived for assistance at the Southern entrance of Strait of Istanbul (Photo property of Turkish Coastal Safety) Yesterday morning, Bulk carrier Meraki suffered engine failure while at the entrance of Strait of Istanbul (Bosporus) Istanbul, at 1005 LT Feb 03 2011. Two tugs (Zubeyde Ana and Kurtarma 5 of Turkish Coastal Safety Administration) and one SAR boat  were sent to assist, at 1110 vessel was in safety. Vessel later was anchored at Ahirkapi road for repairs and survey.

     Meraki IMO 7927491, dwt 23853, built 1980, flag Panama.
