Emirates Shipping cuts its scarifying US$52/TEU war risk charge to $40

DUBAI's Emirates Shipping Line has toned down its scarifying war risk surcharge, reports Singapore maritime news portal Splash. The carrier was one of the first to implement war risk surcharges in the wake of rising insurance costs after six tankers were attacked in the past two months in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

But as other carriers have applied surcharges of their won, Emirates' US$52 per TEU levy has become the highest to date ?$10 more than the next highest and $16 higher than the lowest.

Today, Emirates decided to reduce the surcharge to $40 per TEU.
