The average spot rate fell 12 per cent compared to May 2012 when it stood at $2,337 per FEU. Its highest point this year was $2,700, after which it slid when the April general rate increases failed to take hold.
Spot rates on the eastbound transpacific route have not been down to current levels since April 2012. The average spot rates applies to 10 per cent of container volume on the eastbound trade lane from Hong Kong-based non-vessel operating common carriers at a rate set below that of annual contracts.
